Navigating Government Security Compliance

In a complex regulatory environment, compliance is the cornerstone of success for organizations pursuing government contracts, grants, and public funding. By meeting requirements, agencies can establish credibility, drive growth, and differentiate themselves from competitors.

Understand critical compliance requirements

  • NDAA (National Defense Authorization Act) Section 889
Prohibits federal agencies and contractors from procuring or using telecommunications and surveillance equipment from certain Chinese manufacturers due to national security concerns.
  • TAA (Trade Agreements Act)
Requires that products sold to the U.S. government are manufactured or substantially transformed in the U.S. or designated countries.
  • FIPS (Federal Information Processing Standards) 140
Specifies security requirements for cryptographic modules protecting sensitive information.

Key compliance information to secure your contracts

NDAA Section 889

Section 889 of the National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) for Fiscal Year 2019 prohibits federal agencies and their contractors or grant recipients from procuring video surveillance and other telecommunications equipment from several named Chinese manufacturers. For security projects involving federal funding or government contracts, it’s critical that installed equipment is fully NDAA-compliant.

  • All Axis products are 100% NDAA Section 889 compliant and ready for use in sensitive and federally funded environments

TAA

The Trade Agreements Act (TAA) regulates that several technical products and services (including hardware and software products and services) be manufactured or substantially transformed in the U.S. or a TAA-approved country. This requirement is key for any company supplying technology to federal agencies through GSA contracts or similar procurement channels.

  • The majority of Axis products are TAA compliant, making them suitable for U.S. government procurement. Connect with our experts to find the right solution for your needs.

FIPS 140

Federal Information Processing Standards (FIPS) compliance is set to govern cryptographic modules used by federal agencies to safeguard sensitive information. FIPS compliance ensures data confidentiality and integrity through increasingly stricter requirements through four levels. With each increasing level, there are more restrictive requirements.

  • Axis has FIPS-compliant cryptographic hardware and software modules for many of its devices, including:
  • FIPS 140-2 Level 1 certified software module
  • FIPS 140-2 Level 2 certified hardware module
  • FIPS 140-3 Level 3 certified hardware module

Other Important Compliance Standards

In addition to NDAA, TAA, and FIPS 140, Axis supports a wide range of compliance needs for government projects. This includes adherence to cybersecurity frameworks like NIST CSF and support for ATO and Risk Management Framework (RMF) processes, ISO 27001 certification for information security, and Export Compliance with U.S. and EU regulations. Axis also offers Software Bill of Materials (SBOM) for transparency in software development and product security. Our experts can help you navigate which requirements apply to your specific use case and recommend compliant solutions with confidence.
